Kagami-mochi” is two rounds of rice cake (mochi) with an orange on top. It will be cut off into small pieces to be cooked. This ceremony is called “Kagami-biraki”, i.e. “mirror opening” and generally, this event takes place on January 11th to wish for a peaceful year for the family. It is believed people who eat Kagami-mochi will lead healthy and happy lives in the coming year. Not to be in the soup, put mochi in the soup and eat!
