I love these five dog breeds, but that doesn’t mean I’d want to live with one.
In this video, I’m breaking down five incredible dog breeds that I deeply respect, admire, and enjoy working with, while explaining why they would not be the right fit for my personal lifestyle.
We’re counting down the Leonberger, Beauceron, Airedale Terrier, Newfoundland, and Belgian Tervuren.
Every breed on this list has qualities worth loving, including loyalty, intelligence, confidence, working ability, personality, and devotion to its family.
But choosing the right dog requires more than falling in love with a breed’s appearance or reputation.
You have to consider the dog’s size, energy, grooming needs, shedding, drooling, working drive, protective instincts, training requirements, and the everyday reality of sharing your home with that breed.
A wonderful dog can still be the wrong dog for your lifestyle.
That doesn’t make the breed bad.
It simply means that successful dog ownership begins with an honest match between the dog’s natural traits and the life you can realistically provide.
After nearly 30 years of working with dogs and their owners, I’ve learned that the best breed is not necessarily the most impressive breed.
It’s the breed whose needs, temperament, energy, and personality fit the person standing on the other end of the leash.

My 5, in no particular order,
Malinois, I had one, didn't know what I had, he came from an abusive situation, so was sad and unfulfilled.
Husky & Great Pyrenese because I'm in Texas and it's cruel to have them outside, too much hair for inside.
Jack Russell & Border Collies too high energy. We're retired and they would be too much for us.
Yes, hair so much..it's like watching bumbleweeds roll through the house.. drool…. so much!!!. But they are so sweet and great with children😊 Friends adopted one because she (mom) grew up with one … it is adorable to watch their baby girl grow up with a sort of giant pup. They are thick as theives and so in sync. But the the drool is fun to witness, if you do not have to live with it.
I love the Akita, but I don't have the strength or the time for the exercise and socialization it needs. I'm ok with that.
I would never own a dog with the long ore the curly hair, to much work on the coats, its not an hobby of mine, i always had short haired dogs with one exeption, a Yorkshire but thats more the responsability of my wife, every 2 mounths to the trim saloon, just not for me, i vacuum the house every day and thats it 😁
I loved my Irish Terrier back 20 years ago, but now I am older and not sure I could keep up.
Beauceron was top 3 when i was making decision. I met 4 and 3 were like you explained. Intense ,focused and sharp. Last one was female that was calm, gentle until breeders kids entered the room. She just switched from us to fully focused on children. Constantly watching, following them to kitchen, upstairs, backyard back to kitchen. And she showed huge guarding readiness .On top of that if kids tried to go near swimming pool she would pushed them away, dragged the away from it. Herding . Breeder told us she is fully trained and that is only reason anybody outside of the family can be in same area with those kids. He said ,she was like that from early age. Children became her obsession . She would always look for threats . That is why he trained her to be able to control her instinct. I loved her, but being well over 50 we decided it will be way to much dog now days. We end up with Cao Fila de Sao Miguel. Ws is best choice? After over 6 years? Probably not, but i am glad it is those 2 Lucifers not Beauceron. They not as had wired. One more thing, since we did not cropped ears every time i walk them people tend to say " what a strange looking Rotties. Never see them with brown stripes." ; Your list is perfect. Each bread for different reason. It just shows that great breed can be nightmare in some part of our life and getting dog just on look alone can become big mistake.
Lost my Husky last week Chucky was a single pup in my bitches litter I’m 69 now and had to put down the Ren on sunday and I lost our lab last month My wife got me a Bernese Mountain Dog Pup I still have Chuckys Dad He is Akita hairy guy but such a loyal friend he and I welcomed the pup on sunday I’m use to hairy big dogs use to raise Wolf Hybreds the Charlie found a good home He sleeps with me and Tuff already uses the puppy pads smart as a whip Have a 40×40 pen that borders the Horse pasture he has adjusted well The wife and kids live in town me and the d Dogs live on the Ranch with the Horses
