My vet never offered this but I would just occasionally stop by the vet and bring him in to see the front desk staff and weigh him. This helped to let him associate the vet with more than just pokes and now he loves going to the vet.
I would be so ducking pissed if my vet was teaching my dog to howl. People work to teach dogs not to howl indoors or around strangers, particularly when they live in apts etc. and this vets office is just undermining ALL of that. Positive association I get but dogs are happy just to meet you no need for howls.
