Why Neutered Male Cat Mounts Male Cat (He’s Not Gay)

Ficus and Giro are neutered but when the 2 cats are inside the house, Ficus tries to mount Giro sometimes. I don’t think Ficus is gay because he also tried to mount Rihanna (one of the 3 diva cats living in our backyard) when i brought Rihanna inside the house too. I have read that neutered cats do this when they want to exert dominance especially when the guest cat is in Ficus’ territory. Ficus never does this when he is outside with Giro or Rihanna.

Ficus (Japanese bobtail) and Giro (tuxedo cat) were both rescue kittens. On January 3, 2021 we found Ficus hiding underneath a pickup truck. He was tiny, dirty, starving, skinny, and full of fleas and ear mites. He was about 3 months old. Recently he turned 3.

Giro was rescued by another family in 2022 when he was a tiny kitten. Giro was about 6 months old when he was introduced to Ficus. Since then the two cats have become regular playmates and have gotten very close.
