  1. My Blue Heeler is the first dog I’ve ever owned that I did not neuter. I read several articles and nobody seemed to have a solid answer if you should neuter or not. Kinda damned if you do damned if you don’t from what I gathered. He’s currently going on 3 next month 😃.

  2. I'm about to bring home two female heelers and, even though I don't want to deal with their heats and the hormones, I just cannot bring myself to spay them early.
Imagine casterating your children prior to puberty and expecting their development not be affected.

I'll be way more inclined to spay my girls when I know they're done maturing, for sure.

  3. With our previous Cattledog, I brought him to the Vet…..and he screamed very mournfully when I dropped him off. It killed me and he didn't like me for about a week. But, needless to say Ghost is getting neutered, I'm going to wait until he's about a year old.

  4. I had my Bella and my Cattle Dog before her spayed before their first heat period. My Vet told me that if a female is spayed before her first heat, she has less than 1 percent chance of getting breast cancer. If she just goes through one heat, their chance of breast cancer jumps to about 12 percent!!! That shocked the Hell out of me!! My Vet said not to buy in to any of those development or personality things, because they’re all BS!! In the early 90s I lost my Beagle to breast cancer because I was too damned dumb to listen to my Vet at the time! Never again!!😊

  5. As a previous vet tech research is so important. Especially when it comes to breed in my mind. We only have one ACD and he’ll be 1 in March. We don’t plan on neutering because he’ll be working cattle but also I’m a sahm & our daughter is home schooled so hes never alone. Plus we have a fenced in yard. All the research i did on my own stated to wait a least a year to neutering for ACD. Any vet that recommends spay / neutering under 6 months cat or dog run lol Stats are always changing which is good and bad i think because it’ll never be one fits all just like people, so i think that helps us feel like we’re doing what’s best for our fur babies.

To me it boils down to what’s right for your dog and family. If people did this kind of research before getting a dog or specific animals, so many shelters would be less.
So Alex again i have to say thank you for helping educate from a non judgmental place ❤️

  6. By spraying or neutering you are taking away the production spaces for the hormones responsible for sexual behaviour. So all behaviours coming from the sexual drive will be gone. An example: If a male is barking at other males because he is seeing them as sexual rivals it will be gone. If he is barking at them because of fear, insecurity, aggresiv or many other reasons these behaviours will stay. I am from germany and nowadays there is a option to chip your dog, which will lower the hormone levels chemically for about 6 months. It is a great option to test how your dog will behave if he gets neutered / spayed. For insecure dogs I would definitly recommend that test first, taking away their testostorone can make them even more fearful, scared of everything.

  7. Kalina was 7 months old when she was spayed. I agree with you on the pet population and that’s mainly why we did it but we also didn’t want any puppies. When Kalina had her surgery we brought her home and she acted like nothing ever happened. My vet sent her home with a cone on and she did not like that. After about day 2 she started eating her cone and we had to rake it off. She did really good after that, she didn’t mess with her incision plus it was good that her stitches were on the inside… I am glad we did the spay. ❤️

  8. Thank you for making this video. I had my guy neutered at 10 months because he was getting a bit aggressive with his younger brother. He is doing well but I had really wanted to give him at least a year because I thought that was the time needed to prevent osteo issues.

  9. Almost exactly our story. I wanted to wait for eight months, because I heard that boys neutered too young might develop incontinence problems. At 7 months, he was getting a little too frisky at the dog park, but was trying to mount exclusively males, and they didn't like that very much, so fights were increasingly common to the point that our welcome was wearing thin. At 7 1/2 months, my little gay boy was getting insufferable, and marking with full p p loads inside the house, for some reason. 7 months and 3 weeks was time, as he was getting obnoxiously sassy when told to come inside. After the procedure, It took him about a month to get out of his doldrums and back to his energetic personality. He was noticeably more patient and less randomly aggressive. He still faithfully guards his property line and there's slightly less mounting the boys without warning at the dog park, but still just boys, that I can tell, and with a preference for huskies (I get it. they're pretty). Should I buy him a little pink bandana, or one with a rainbow pattern?

  10. We spayed our cattle at exactly 6 months one reason being is my boyfriend had 2 dogs die of pyometra at young ages. And there’s another dog in the house that every time she goes into heat she gets awful infections and we never know if she will make it (not our dog and we can’t make that decision to spay her). So far so good no issues I’m hoping it was the right decision. She tested negative for hip dysplasia gene. Hopefully that’s accurate. Spaying her didn’t change her at same personality same amount of energy.

  11. my heeler boy was neutered at 7 months He gained a lot of weight and was told to wait a year to spay but idk Thank u for this video!

  12. my friend took her ex's choc lab he was never neutered she came home from work and said it looked like a crime scene His testicle like exploded bc he had cancer

  13. I just watched a short clip of yours titled “ there’s always one in the bunch” lol where I laughed watching Sully frolic through the puddle in the rain lol to hear he got a little aggressive trying to practice I thought not sweet little Sully who I just saw so innocently trying to catch raindrops lol 😂 love your videos.
I agree all dogs are different with spaying/neutering, all of mine have been boy and girls no changes in there personality but it’s my Baby Roo who broke the mold she became more mouthy and herded/humped me more than I’d like to admit for about a month after her spay. Thankfully she is not doing that as much anymore. I am thinking it was the hormones maybe adjusting 🙏🏻

  14. My dog (pure-bread cattle dog) who used to live with my Dad was neutered at a very young age. Though, his father was neutered when he was 4 or 5. I now own my dog Milton because when his father was neutered at an older age he surged in testosterone and viciously attacked my dog. The father of my dog is an extremely respectable and good boy and now it is okay for them to be around one another. But for about 3 to 4 weeks it was very hard. Just a warning

  15. No Neutering for my ACD Zoro.. if it was a Vasectomy, I'd consider it, but told they don't do that. So No for me. To each his own..

  16. I neutered my cattle dog Jasper and the biggest difference is that he stopped jumping all over and humping the 80lb pit mix that visits from across the road…………oddly she doesnt come over as often now, so maybe she enjoyed the attention

  17. Just earlier today took 8 months old Chopper into get spayed. I know that it is a huge curve in her biology. I hated seeing her lethargic. I didn't know it would be so msg days to recover. The vet was excellent the procedure is no joke. She's so unhappy. I left her with my daughter, her grandma, a cat. And 2 breeder dogs m 😅
