WHY My Dog Was LIMPING for 3 Months 😢 Our Journey to a Diagnosis

Three months ago, my Westie dog Sami started limping after a round of zoomies around the house. After being put on bed rest, multiple vet visits, X-Rays, anti-inflammatory meds and a CT scan we got a surprising diagnosis.

  1. Having a westie is indeed a rollercoaster of emotions. Mine has cushing syndrome, many allergies so he’s always itchy and has had hip dysplasia and otohaematoma in both ears. He’s already 10 and I’m here trying to give him the best quality life I can even though it’s quite difficult because of all those issues.

  2. Sunbathing as much as he can, avoid swimming and many showers,,dry his legs well every time they get wet and really nothing to worry about; Sami is a healthy dog living his best life with his wonderful pawrents ❤

  3. Sami przyjacielu wracaj szybko do zdrowia .

  5. Stella, at 10, had arthritis & could barely jump onto the couch. Then we got Sprocket. Motion is lotion!! I don’t think it affected her life span. She was with me until she was 17. A good run for a Westie!

  6. As I have watched your videos and have seen some of Sami's health challenges, I can't help but wonder if his breeder perhaps wasn't the greatest. I don't mention that to be mean at all and I know it doesn't impact how much you love Sami. But when you feel up to it, it might be a subject that would be useful for others to talk about. It is so easy for inexperienced or unethical breeders to cut corners in the interest of making a buck, especially for these popular purebred dogs. And genetic disposition to certain health problems can be the most difficult to detect and the easiest to hide when they are puppies. I am saying this not as some kind of holier-than-though expert but as someone who probably did not do enough due diligence myself when I bought our own Westie. We have been tremendously lucky with our Westie with struvite stones being the only significant health problem to date (she now eats special urinary tract dog food) but I am now much more mindful of the importance of choosing a reliable breeder. If your breeder is still breeding Westies, it might be worth letting them know your experiences with Sami. I would think a reputable breeder would welcome that feedback if it was given in a respectful way. I wish you the best with Sami's arthritis.

  7. I think you should give something like acupuncture a try. However I wonder whether Sami will accept the needles and tries to remove them. An alternative to acupuncture is Pranic Healing. It is about the same but it works without needles and it also can be given from a distance (very handy and effective with pets); I would try this. I am pretty sure there are some proficiant healers in your country for there is a institution in Lisbon where they give courses. I followed several courses in the Netherlands and I treated several people with severall diseases; it works. I checked whether arthritis can be treated and there are some protocols for this illnes. Good luck!!

  8. When my dog doesn't feel right I take him to the park and we seat under the trees. He spends time outside but he doesn't get tired or painful. He has short legs like Sami. He gets distracted watching other dogs and feeling the breeze. Sometimes he just doesn't want to walk, so he goes to the potty trip and comes back, even when I tell him to walk another block if he wants to. Sometimes it's to hot to run; other dogs are more regular with the walk.

  9. Oh No! Humans have sesamoid issues too, I know I have had them. It's incredibly painful when it's active. I have to where very cushioned shoes and not run or jump. For Westies thats a tough spot. I wish I had some better information for you all, I think with good doctors you find some answers. It's great you shared this, your channel brings Westie owners together to discuss these types of issues. Best to you all!
