Today the new TENants (there are TEN!) are running, eating, climbing, and purring!
You’ll see that the six, nearly-identical tabbies have colored collars: I don’t love putting collars on kittens, but all the kittens have diarrhea and I need to make sure they each get the right meds, and compare which kitten produced which poop.
(Do I put the kittens in one of the litter boxes after they eat and take notes on their poops’ consistency? You betcha!)
These collars are soft, Velcro, puppy whelping collars from Amazon. The rule of thumb is that the collar shouldn’t be too tight, but also not so loose than it can get caught on things and hurt the kitten: the right fit is when I can fit two fingers underneath the collar. There’s extra room for adjustment as the kittens grow.
So far the kittens haven’t paid any attention to their collars, and it’s important that I know who is who as they heal and grow.
