Amazing 4-Story Dalmatian Balancing a Taxi – NYU-Langone’s Icon! #doglover #dog
Spot is a towering 4-story Dalmatian sculpture, balancing a NYC Taxi (a Prius donated by Toyota) on her nose. This unique installation is located in front of the Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU-Langone Medical Center on East 34th Street in New York. The sculpture was designed by Chris Collins and fabricated by FAST of Sparta, WI.
Chris Collins shared that creating Spot was a privilege and aimed to distract and comfort children, even those facing serious procedures, by making the sculpture both astounding and lovable. He hopes everyone, from patients to staff to neighbors, will be charmed by this playful, heroic Dalmatian. For Collins, art truly has healing power, and this piece is particularly meaningful to him as it is in his neighborhood and at his hospital.
Since June 2021, Spot has worn her own mask to protect those around her.
