hey Guy lovers and welcome back to another video while there is size variation among and within cat breeds there are some breeds that are known for being smaller than others in some cases a lot smaller that’s why we thought it would be fun to find out which domestic cats are the smallest if you enjoy this kind of content subscribe to the channel for more cat videos now let’s reveal the top 10 smallest domestic cat breeds number 10 Turkish Angora the Turkish Angora has an average height of 9 to 14 in and an average weight of 8 to 15 lb while Turkish angoras are not the smallest cats around they are smaller than average they are also much smaller than the Turkish van another cat breed that they are often mistaken for but their average sizes are much different spoiler alert the Turkish van appears on our top 10 largest domestic cat breed lists by comparison the Turkish Angora is much smaller though their long coats make them look larger than they are Turkish angor cats have very large fluffy coats as they are descended from the frent mountainous regions of turkey they are beloved for their white silky long hair number nine Le perm Le perm cats have unique curly coats that resemble perms hence their name the lerm cat is on the smaller side usually measuring 10 to 14 in in height and 5 to 10 lb in weight the co texture is thought to be a result of a spontaneous genetic mutation that can be traced back to the 1980s the first leperm named Curly was born in the Dallas Oregon a formal breeding initiative was was undertaken about a decade later Le perms are not a common breed but they are slowly growing an interesting fact about the leperm cat is that they are often born bald or with very short hair their coats remain this way throughout kittenhood and many don’t develop curls until they are around 2 to 3 years old despite the luxurious curly coats leperm cats don’t require too much coat maintenance they are known for being lovable and energetic number eight burmes cat the Burmese cat is a popular breed on the smaller side typically weighing 8 to 12 lb and sizing up at 9 to 10 in the breed traces back to Myanmar formerly called Burma as per their name while the breed is thought to have some ancient Origins the modern day Burmese cat can be traced back to one cat called Wang Mao she was brought to the United States in the 1930s where her unique appearance attracted the attention of breeders she was bred with a Siamese cat named taau and their offspring were the foundations of the burmes breed the breed was officially recognized by the cat fanciers Association in 1952 un fortunately the breed is prone to several genetic disorders including familial episodic hypokalemic polymyopathy a condition that causes skeletal weakness and Burmese head defect cranial deformity number seven Siamese Siamese cats weigh an average of 8 to 10 lb and measure up to 8 to 10 in in height the Siamese is one of the most well-known cat breeds due to their unique appearance Siamese cats are sleek and lean with a light colored coat contrasted by a darker face and Paws while the colors of their code can vary slightly all Siamese cats have bright blue eyes this breed is known for their intelligence as they are widely regarded as one of the smartest cats around they are also known for being very vocal Siamese cats love to express their thoughts and opinions in meows and chirps the breed is considered to be one of the oldest breeds in the world with roots tracing back to Thailand Thailand was once referred to as sayam hence Siamese they became one of the most popular cat breeds around Europe and North America in the 19th and 20th centuries number six Devon Rex the Devon Rex is the second Rex cat on the list the first being the Le perm like the leperm Devon Rex cats are quite small in size they’re usually 10 to 12 in in height and 6 to 9 lb in weight these cats are known for their small stature especially their small heads their heads look especially small in comparison to their large ears a signature part of their look this breed is thought to be very active friendly and sociable as their name suggest the breed was originated in Devon England in the 1960s a woman named Barrel Cox discovered what would become known as the first Devon Rex cat the cat had short wavy fur a trait that would end up not being related to the breed Devon Rex cats became an official breed per the cat fers Association in 1979 fun fact about the Devon Rex it is often suggested that Steven Spielberg based the design of ET off of his cat a Devon Rex number five American curl like several other cat breeds on this list the American curl is a relatively new breed the breed originated in the 1980s anecdotally a stray cat was found with unique ears and it was selectively bred to replicate the trait as such American curl cats are known for their unique upturned ears their ears which flip back on themselves are the result of a harmless genetic mutation unlike the Scottish Fold another cat breed with unique ears their genetic mutation does not have any impact on their quality of life the American curl breed is quite diverse featuring a variety of coat colors however most of them tend to be on the smaller side most American curls have a height of 9 to 12 in and a weight of 5 to 10 lb like the leperm C American curls are not born with their signature trait rather their ears naturally turn up within a few days aside from their unique features American curl cats are known for their playful and intelligent demeanors number four Cornish Rex the Cornish Rex is yet another Rex cat breed on this list and they are the smallest of the bunch Cornish RX cats tend to be around 8 to 12 in in height and 6 to 10 lb in weight it is easy to mix up the Cornish Rex and the Devon Rex but there are several key differences the Cornish Rex tends to be smaller and they have a signature wavy coat the Devon Rex on the other hand has larger ears and shorter whiskers the Cornish Rex originated in the Cornwall region of England during the 1950s first Cornish Rex on record was owned by a woman named Nina ennismore who noticed the unique design of her kitten cabun and decided to speak with a geneticist together they pioneered the breed breeding cabun with other breeds including the British short hair Siamese and Burmese the breed was officially recognized by the cat fers Association in 1964 today the breed is quite popular in the United States beloved for their unique appearance and lovable personality number three toy Bob as their name suggest this breed is known for being small toy bob cats are usually 10 in in height and weigh only 3 to 7 lb this makes them one of the smallest breeds of domestic cats the breed dates back to the 1980s and the First toy bob cat was bred in Russia two already small breeds a seal pointed cat with a bobbed tail and a seal pointed cat with a short tail were bred to create the toy Bob the breed is naturally very tiny and they have signature boobed Tails often fully grown toy bob cats are mistaken for kittens as they are so small luckily the genetics that contribute to their small size do not have any adverse effects on their health and they are not more prone to genetic conditions than other cats they were not selectively bred to be tiny it was a natural occurrence the breed is quite rare though and they have become much more popular in the last few decades they are known for being very cuddly and affectionate number two munchkin like the toy Bob you can tell that munchkins are small just by hearing their name but you may not realize just how small they are munchin cats typically are only 5 to 7 in in height and 4 to 9 lb in weight by comparison the first entry on the list the Turkish Angora is two to three times as big as the munchkin considering the Turkish angoras are thought of as small cats the munchkin is a really small cat their small size is the most distinctive feature though they weren’t selectively bred to be small rather their size as a result of a naturally occurring genetic mutation munchkin cats have been reported in the United Kingdom and Russia in the 1940s and 1950s but the first officially recorded munchkin was in Louisiana in the 1980s a woman named Sandra hendell came across a munchkin which she named Blackberry Blackberry would go on to become the foundation of the breed the uniquely small cats became referred to as munchkins after the characters in The Wizard of Oz they were officially recognized as a breed in 1991 there is some controversy surrounding the m breed as two munchkin cats cannot be bred together without the embryos dying in the womb as such munchkin cats can only be bred with other breeds and they Offspring have an equal chance of being born munchkin or not some argue that the genetic mutation should not be replicated and that Munchkin breeding should not continue however despite popular belief there are no known health conditions attributed to their small size and munchkin cats have normal lifespans and now the moment you’ve been waiting for the smallest domestic cat breed number one Singapura the Singapura is widely regarded as the smallest domestic cat breed in the world they are typically half the size of the average domestic cat weighing only 4 to 6 lb and reaching 6 to 8 in in height besides their size the Singapore is well known for their beautiful coats they typically have brown or cpia coats with a ticked Tabby pattern the origins of this breed are not fully known and there is some controversy over where they really originated from however it is most widely accepted that the breed occurred naturally in Singapore they were spotted by two American breeders Tommy and Hal Meadow and brought back to the United States in 1975 from there a breeding program was started the controversy arose about a decade later when another breeder Jerry Maye found evidence that suggested the meadow breeders had actually flown the cats to Singapore from the United States in 1974 before pretending they found them naturally a year later following this it was suggested that the breed was actually an abian and burmes mix that was selectively bred to become smaller and smaller the cat faner Association conducted an investigation and concluded that the meadow brothers did not commit any wrongdoings even though the breed was recognized in 1982 there are still debates about whether or not they are naturally occurring or not regardless the breed has become well- loved today though they are relatively rare they are known for their playful and energetic nature now that we’ve gone over the list it’s time for cat of the week this video’s cat of the week is jet his Guardian says jet is 3 Love your channel! Thank you!
Lol we start with a breed averaging as large as 15 pounds and I'm like huh? those average sizes basically describe 99.9% of the cats I've met in my life. I'm guessing these rankings are based on breed-specific knowledge and don't include the typical non-certified mixed breeds.
Cats ARE the BEST! I’ve had pussycats all my life, starting as an embryo myself! Everyone of my BABIES who are at the 🌈 bridge, are my soulmates, & l can’t wait to see them again. They are so beautiful in their natures, just wanting to LOVE, & we ‘cat people’ know they are our ‘earth angels’. They have been given to us by GOD, to look after & treasure. If people don’t like animals, there’s something WRONG with those people: l have successfully gotten rid of anyone who don’t like my cats. And if l’m gonna be a crazy old ‘cat lady’ ….. bring it on!!!!! 😻😁😘🌟
Did any of these breeds surprise you? 🐈
I feel sorry for the Munchkins because they probably can't jump very well with their little legs.
Adottate… non comprate!!
Very interesting video, thanks for the info! 😻😹😺😸🤗
