  1. Vets here in the United States do it for dogs with long draping ears, which are prone to ear infections and mites. It's not always done because of the vanity of an owner. Sometimes an owner might choose to have it done to increase the number of healthy years the dog enjoys. Ear mites also cause mange which is a slow painful death.

  2. If your dog isn’t doing a job where the ears and tail can get damaged, don’t crop and dock it. Period. Hate me all you want, but that was the original reason for cropping and docking which is why it’s a “breed standard”. Rubbish excuse I know but in dog shows they want to see the dog in the way it would if it was doing its job
