  1. Doesn't seem you can tell which if ANY animal is trying its hardest. Wolfhound tears off high speed, Dane is like "crap I want to do that too!" speeds up…wolf hound "mannnn… YOUR in the way now? Screw it, I guess I'll play along though…"  Then, "oh yeah… here it is!". No faster dog.

  2. That wolfhound wasnt even trying to run at full speed, he was definitely just enjoying trotting in the chase!

  3. Keep in mind, too, that dogs this size don't have to look like they are running fast for them to cover huge amounts of distance. I have a rather average-sized male wolfhound (35 inches tall at the shoulder, 150 lbs) and he has a 8'7" stride just while he's playing and running in the backyard! So, yeah, it may not look as fast as some dogs, but when each stride covers that much distance, it's still pretty incredible.

  4. Why would you use huge dogs like this for such a cruel sport, it's f**king discusting, the Irish Wolfhound was originally bred for taking down Wolves in ancient times in Ireland to protect sheep from those predators, but that was then, this is now, those women aught to be ashamed of themselves.

  5. Both will run about 30+ mph however the great dane is listed at #10 on top ten fastest dogs & the Irish wolfhound is not listed at all. I will say no one puts a Kangal or boz sheperd in this conversation & know for a fact they can run over 35-40 MPH & do this for a really good stretch.

  6. I have had both breeds, still have a Great Dane, and Great Dane are great for acceleration but not for long term high speed, Irish Wolfhounds are not that fast but they can keep that speed for long distances. For running around in circles or any type of parcours, the Irish Wolfhound will lose because of there bodyweight wich doesn't allow them to change direction fast.
I have seen this years ago when my I.W. (female) was racing around against a whippet. Any time the Whippet changed direction, 90 degrees, it took the I.W. a long time to change direction. But after 2 minutes the whippet was tyred and the I.W. was not.

  7. Have you ever seen an Irish Wolfhound chase squirrels, then you don't know how fast they can run — but when I say 'run' I mean GALLOP
