  1. I'm so glad I found your channel awhile ago. I have a Doberman that was apparently abandoned who just showed up at my house in the country starving. He was so wild and crazy I thought I was going to have to get rid of him. I'm a senior citizen and have some balance issues. Thanks to your channel I've been able to train most of that wildness and undisciplined behavior out of him. He's now much calmer and more well-behaved, and he's become a good friend. Thanks so much for your videos.

  2. Hi John I’ve just watched you video. so do you not recommend giving your dog any human food at all? I have a 14 week old Doberman and have occasional given her scrap food (left over meat) in her bowl, after we have eaten. Love your videos, got some great advice, thanks

  3. Today is my second day with a 5 month old doberman that came with no manners whatsoever.. he keeps biting and growling at both my 9 and 8 yr old kids. I feel completely overwhelmed with him taking all my time these last 2 days and feeling like he's taking my time trying to teach him basic obedience..Any tips or advice would be nice…

  4. I do a door exercise. All my dogs, 2 of which are Red Dobermans, sit at any door because they know that's how it gets opened. At first I would say Sit/wait, then the release word (Free). The reward is going in/out of the door. Start at an inside door to practice. The first time you say Sit/wait, you won't even be able to touch the doorknob before the butt gets up. Hands down at side, standing straight up, Sit/wait, hand on knob, may be able to turn the knob before the butt gets up, turn knob back, hands at your side, Sit/ wait, now maybe open the door a crack before the butt gets up, close the door, hands off the knob, hands at your side. Sit/wait, until you are able to have the dog remain in the same position while you walk through the door (I step away from the dog on the foot furthest from the dog as an extra clue they are to wait there rather than follow you) then turn back to the dog after you are on the other side of the open door. Free – the dog can then come through the door. I use wait because they are going to be able to move in a few. When I use Stay, the dog is safe and nothing bad is going to happen to them. I will come back to the dog to release them. They don't move until I come back to them before giving the release word. For the door exercise though it's wait and every single door, same exercise. Eventually you get to a door, your dog just automatically sits, without you having to say a word. They wait till you give them the release word.

  5. Omg man your channel is just amazing I have been learning so much from your tips n guides. I literally have seen all your videos like 3 or 4 times , some one even 10 or so… just wanted to show some appreciation, real happy to find y9ur channel

  6. This channel is the best I'm getting my first doberman puppy soon and I feel like I've learned so much about the breed watching these videos

  7. first and foremost love the channel and all the information you have. I do have one question for you tho, How is Arlo with your wife? Can there be 2 alphas in the home? how would you go about training the doberman to listen to the non alpha? thanks

  8. A few years ago if my dog wanted our food we would give him a small sliver of onion or a spicy cheeto and after that he was never interested in our food again

  9. Hi John! My husband and I have been watching your videos for a while now and they’re so helpful. We got our Doberman girl Lulu almost 2 months ago now, she’s 5 months today. We worked really hard to teach the basic commands, leave it included.

We’re having difficulty with her following the command after there’s no treats involved. For example, we put human food on the table and tell her to leave it. She leaves it even if we walk away, praise and reward. After the food is removed, she goes back to the table where the food was and sniffs around and will try to lick around. She shows impulse control when treats are involved but it seems in practice she will still try to get away with what she can. Is this normal? Is she not making the connection or is there something else we need to improve upon in our training?

  10. Hi John, we got our Dobie at 15 weeks and we are in love! She hasn’t had much socialization at all before we got her and it’s evident she gets nervous. Any tips on how to socialize an older pup?

  11. My friend had a Doby bi*ch who was trained to lay on a rug in the next room while the humans could eat in peace.
We were eating dinner, Doby was on her rug but got up and disappeared into the hall. She returned at a full gallop, jumped on the rug in a skillful way to slide it up to the edge of the table. And with a quick glance around the the the table, locked eyes with her master in a confident glare that said, "loop hole"

  12. Mr Walter. Have new girl and would love a way to organize your amazing videos? You are truly the best authority on Doberman training. I want to use your methods kinda with a structure. Absolutely don’t want to miss any. I would gladly pay for a list or something. Is that possible?

  13. Loved seeing the "dog trainer" side of you. A lot of dog channels on here love to humanize their dogs and generally just have no idea that their habits are reinforcing bad behaviors every day. So refreshing when you come across people who know what they're talking about lol

  14. Thank you! Your's are the only training techniques that have been helpful to my 14wk old boy and myself. I'm having problems with Riley jumping onto the backs of my legs while I'm walking around the yard. How would you suggest I handle this? If I turn around and say "no jump" he just runs off.

  15. I guess I was lucky- I put food on my coffee table and signed Cersei to leave it and she never touched food then or now. Very smart doberman. Cersei is now 4 months shy of 3 years old and deaf from birth.
