Those looking to get their first Doberman will hear time and time again that Dobermans need an unrealistic amount of exercise to stay happy. This may even scare some people away from the breed entirely! While it’s true that these dogs require plenty of exercise, it’s not an absurd amount, and the average family can provide all the activities and exercise a Doberman could possibly want. To help you get started, I even give you 8 fun and unique activity ideas, just for Dobermans, that’ll keep them mentally and physically stimulated.

As most Doberman owners know all too well, not every dog product works well for this unique breed. That’s why I maintain a list of the best products I’ve found so far for Dobermans.

  1. I've wanted an dobe forever! Last week, I was super blessed to adopt a sweet red doberman from the city pound. I'm totally guessing he's not quite a year old. He's joining our newly adopted shepard mix, newly adopted pittie mix and 2 Chihuahua mixes. Django definitely has a unique personality and I love it! There are 2 main issues I'm having trouble addressing. If you have any advice it would be much appreciated. The whole pack enjoys running up and down our neighbors fence barking at the 2 neighbor dogs. The dobe is the most focused… even after everyone gets bored and wanders off, Django is still out there watching/running up and down the fence. I've had to leash him to get him away to rest and get a drink of water. Also, the pittie mix LOVES to play with the 2 big boys but I'm noticing that the dobe is playing a little 2 rough with her, randomly going for her neck, holding on too long. He doesn't bother the tiny Chihuahuas at all after they told him off. I want to set him up for success as much as possible! He has shown no people aggression and no dog aggression save the neighbor dogs. Has shown no food aggression, tho I do not allow dogs to go in another's bowl.

  2. Lol. 🤣 Besides me being obsessed with YOU and your training videos in general, all your videos have been extremely supportive in me both buying and raising my new Doberman puppy. You’re extremely knowledgeable in this field and I am honestly so grateful to have these videos as support. My 11 week old Doberman is thriving thus far 😘

  3. I'll be my new puppy in a few weeks, I will take a week off anf then my partner will be home (FIFO) for 9 days after that I'm a little concerned about maintaining his routine.

  4. Cersei is my third Doberman and she loves hide and seek–really good at it. The problem I have with stay commands and few others is because she is deaf from birth . Your walking with a leash helped but she still pulls hard. 9 months old today and just spayed. Keep up the fantastic info.

  5. I am 80, have a 7 year old South American Doberman brought back to US with me but unlike active early years we now live in an apartment. So, we play fetch a lot, inside!

  6. My Doberman likes being chased, playing tug, likes bubbles, we also go on bike runs, which is awesome. He loves meeting people, of all ages including children and other animals

  7. Love, love, love you hear videos so full of great breed info. My South American Doberman is smaller than US and European onex at 50 lbs. But most amazing dog I have ever had as my companion. Have raised 110 dogs of several breeds I. My 😘 ng life having shown and raised Afghan Hounds then moving to country, raised Border Collies and Great Pyrenees. Dog I grew up with was a Collie/Coyote mix and awesome as was an Anatolian Shepherd I was privileged with but Rex, my Doberman outshines them all day n every level.

  8. I’m a casual runner, I run anywhere from 12 – 15 miles per week 3-4 miles at a time. I have a 4 month on Doberman. Will it be too much to bring him out with me on these runs ???
Can these dogs handle that kind of exercise?

  9. I know this video is a couple years old now, but it's one of many (so many haha) in a long line of videos I've watched of yours and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for taking the time to create this content. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. Just…. just thank you. I know it's a lot of work and time on your part but MAN is it so helpful!!!!!! Your enthusiasm for this breed is contagious and you've really helped us on our journey while we research this breed. So again, THANK YOU!!!!

  10. Hi! New to your channel (Arlo is incredibly handsome AND adorable) and I just want to say thank you for not just saying "they're high energy dogs" but saying how much exercise they need TIME-wise. 1-2 hrs a day (that includes food puzzles right?) Is a much more stomach able time than what I was thinking. Also your ideas on how to wear them out were very useful! I used to play hide & seek with my boxer, and I loved seeing her run around the house trying to find me. I think Dobermans are beautiful dogs, but I'm still researching and considering if my household is a good fit for them. I just want to say thank you for being specific in how much time they need/detailed list in fun time activities (1-2 hours, maybe more, maybe less).

  11. john: thank-you for the video/My doberman is getting older/ The video gives refreshing approach/Jessie /My doberman loves if other read this to play me hide small bits of salami/pepporoini/meat ect..around room/I put him outside then you can see him catch the scent and the game/ they need positive praise/attention/ its a challenge to keep them busy/ Jason

  12. Another great video explaining in simple terms why it's so important too exercise your Doberman everyday and regularly. My female hybrid Doberman pinscher, 50% European and 50% American, is exercised by three sticks and sometimes even four! She will always get two out of the three sticks and usually three out of the four sticks. But four sticks seems to be her limit. She's very clever and she acts as though she doesn't know where the sticks are located, when in fact she really does. I throw the sticks to her as hard as I can in different spots all around the yard randomly. And she can't stand it when I get any stick first! So she pretends not to know where some sticks are, and then she goes and gets the other sticks. The last thing she will collect is the stick where she already knows where it is. Sometimes she takes sticks and tries to hide them from me. But it's all good fun and she gets to run around quite a bit. So in 30 minutes I can give her pretty much a complete workout. The second time I exercise her during the day is either just before or just after dinner. It's a long walk normally about one and a half to two and a half miles with a leash. And inside the house on those rainy days, we have multiple King Kong heavy duty rubber toys. But she's a great companion, always by my side highly alert and affectionate and obedience is something that is genetic. Clearly the best breed one could ever own! And I've owned a few different breeds. About the only downside I see is her need for regular medical Care and a high quality diet.

  13. Just got my Dobie 3 days ago , 8 weeks and omg im tired 😂😂😂 I keep watching your videos and they help a lot !!! Thank you 😊

  14. We rescued two Dobe puppies from an LA rescue . unfortunately one ate a small piece of blanket at 5 months and it lodged into his intestine. We thought he was just back up and by the time we were able to get him to the dr and a few thousand later he was too far gone. The dr said it be painful and only last another few weeks. 🥹 he was a beautiful strong Red. I wish I would have acted much sooner when he lost weight within just a few weeks. In the middle of hard times we set up a go fund me and he past 4 days after we got the money together.

  15. My Doberman loves to play light game it’s just a handheld laser pointer that we play with at night in the grass you can even use it in the house on a rainy day

  16. 50 years ago we took our mom's dining room chairs out onto the lawn and made jumps for our Dobe. The dog loved it, Mom not so much

  17. The “find it” game is such a good cheat. You can literally relax while your dog is busy running around the house getting exercise

  18. if my human were to get a doberman AS A SECOND dog for me to play with would that work? or are they to big for me? my human lets me walk next to the bike, and i love running and teasing bigger dog with my agile movement. 😀
