Do Dobermans get along with cats? In this video, I’ll discuss how these two do (or don’t) get along and what you can do to make sure they live together in harmony. I’ll give you the four steps I use to make introductions between cats and Dobermans, and how to best supervise them after their initial introductions. Don’t put a Doberman in a cat household until you watch this video!

  1. I just brought my Dobie home today. My one Cat already told him who is boss. My 2nd one is scared. This is going to be helpful.

  2. I have a bunny and a cat, my parents are planning to buy me a doberman once I get my own place (in about a year or so). The dob will be a puppy so I'm hoping that it'll be easier for them to get along since the dog will be a baby.. and my cat is pretty chill with everything

  3. I hope love (doberman) and Leo, Luca, Lily, Louis, Lego (cats) will be fine together.
Lisa is a very positive and good girl see will try to make them friends.

  4. I had a big dog that loved his cat friend as much as he loved his ball. All 3 slept together and played together. Then one day I saw the dog mouth the cat’s head and the cat tolerated it just fine, but it was troubling. Then, a few days later I came home from work, to find my cat had been killed by a crushed skull. My dog mourned greatly.

  5. I had a Doberman and it just didn’t like cats he was not raised with a cat so that made since, now I have 2 Standard Poodles that didn’t do with my daughters cat and when she moved out the cat went with her.

  6. A young doby can be very playful with cats that scare them so I distract my Doby (Gunny) with toys or treats when the frolic turns rough. I agree supervision is key, plus any Doby really needs to learn the word no to the point that he stops immediately what ever he's doing. This makes socializing much easier in my opinion.

  7. My roommate and I used a muzzle on our pittie mix when introducing our new cat to her, then graduated her to a mesh muzzle, and so on. It seemed to work fairly well for us.

  8. I have a very prey driven puppy at 13weeks old how has joined our home of two small older dogs and a cat.
We have been trying the t-shirt exchange since watching this video. Our puppy will take the tshirt and rip at it, shaking it and try to pull it apart. (He is only doing this if the others scent is on) im feeling like he is acting out what he would do to the other animal. When i try to stop him he jumps on me snarling/growling and biting down on my arm. I tell him "no" firmly. He chomps down one or two more times then will let go and sit.
Not sure if im handling this wrong or how we can make him intergrate into the family safely

  9. I always want a friendly guard friend with cats 🙂
    Like doberman with cats
    Or pitbull with cats
I rlly like see cats and dogs protec eachother

  10. They are sent driven. Because I let they kitten smell my hand ater petting the dog also a puppy. Petting the kitten and letting the puppy smell my hand. At first because they both got my attention they were not buds but they kept the peace. That winter both laid butt to butt when the cat was old and couldn't keep her body heat she would sleep on top of my dog . She would open one eye and think it the cat. So the cat would sleep on top of the dog. Both females .

  11. My doberman could care less about my cat. However my med doberman german pincher likes to ty to strip the fur off her! I tried 8 times with them meeting….but she will walk over and try it even if we are all sleeping. She starts barking high pitched when she even SEES the cat!. My chihuahuas and pitbull are fine with the cat. My pit loves to sniff her face and lick her ears

  12. Thanks for the video, I know it's 3 years old but you info has helped my wife and I decide to get a doberman and how to raise him. We also have a cat and she was a but scary of what a doberman can do hahahaha

  13. I need a service dog for my chronic pain and one of my upper choice breed pics is a dobbie but I do worry about my cats and smaller dogs I own but that's also for any big dog even without prey drive because of the size difference 😅 all of my babies are so important to me and I can't handle losing one to another. We lost my mom's baby last year to a dog that wasn't loved enough to be cared for and properly trained and she got out of her yard and that was it :(.

  14. My Kenya Girl (Dobie) is 11 months and our ginger tabby Piscis who is 18 months have still not worked things out… he had been with us for 5 months before we brought her home and although we went thru all the steps of proper introduction we still have to keep them separate or her on a leash! she's sooooo hyper (2 trainers have nicknamed her "wildthing") and she goes after him just the same as she would try and go for a squirrel. Piscis doesn't help himself since he's always looking to tease her or literally fight her. He follows me around everywhere and is jealous of her when he sees me playing with her outside or petting her, It's kind of mad to watch – my family can't believe he reacts the way he does! I hope with more maturity on her part and some emotional therapy for my cat we make it thru 🙂

  15. Well this sucks I have a 7 year old cat who hates anything alive except me. And I've been watching so many of your videos all excited about getting a Doberman. But after watching this one I guess I'll have to wait until my cat passes of old age. Having him get attacked is not a risk I'm willing to take my cat hardly listens to commands so I feel like the Doberman would see that as a lack in leadership.

An animal pinning down another one and ripping it's fur out is what they do before eating them so they don't get a mouth full of fur so that's what that 1 specific Doberman was most likely doing just based off that tiny little detail

This whole video has made me rethink getting a dog in general since I was going to have it trained to go hunting (to like flush out game and retrieve like ducks and stuff) and I never really considered how a hunting dog would perceive my small not so friendly (except to me) cat that does whatever he wants like he's the alpha

  16. Would it be better to introduce them if one of them is, or both are, 'babies'? Because i know for a fact that cats and dogs get along better when they grow up with each other but i wonder if it's the same with dobermans…

  17. We started off really great with our puppies and many cats. The puppies didn't even mind eating cheek to cheek out of the same bowl with a few cats. Then one of the cats, out of no where started attacking the puppies when they were minding their own busness or even sleeping.
Now the puppies charge at the cats when they see them. If the cat reacts, it gets ugly. If the cat trots away and gets out of reach, the pups start looking for another cat.
So far, when they're engaging we just quietly remove the puppies from the room then put the cat in another room and close the door. If we see one of the reactive cats, we try to distract the pups with short training reviews; it doesn't always work.

Is there something else we should be doing? (Yes, we're trying to remove the cat that started this all – he'sbecome aggressive to all of our other animals, too; but we have a couple of cats that don't deserve to be terrorized, and we need our puppies to be non- responsive)
