The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is often described as being the most agreeable of all the small house dog breeds that you could bring home. These pups are athletic, strong, and lively. Their herding instincts are still strong, yet they also have a desire for human companionship. They tend to be affectionate without being overly needy in their requests to have a snuggle.

These traits can also apply to the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, a cousin that became distinctive in the late 19th century. The most notable differences between the two are the ears and the tail.

This combination of factors makes the Corgi one of the world’s most popular breeds in the herding category.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a sensitive dog with high intelligence levels. They love to play often, responding well to training by wanting to learn more activities. These pups are fearless in their herding ability, moving cattle efficiently while being vigilant about their watching activities. You’ll get the big dog bark with this breed even though the animal comes in a much smaller package.

  2. I just now saw a blue-eyed PWC online. (I think the place it's in is a pet store. Bellaire, Texas). I didn't know any of them ever had blue eyes. It's so cute!

I always think of a Tasha Tudor painting whenever I see one of these dogs. She always said they were whimsical dogs, and they were the only breed of dog she ever had.

Unfortunately, I don't think one would fit well with our family. They need too much exercise. (I live on 2 acres, but we have a HUGE problem around here with ant beds that we can't get rid of. I'd worry for its safety, same as I always was about our other dogs).

  3. My family lost a dog named bear recently, And my birthday is coming up on may 19th, Now My family are gonna discuss This with me, now if they say yes I need some name suggestions

  4. Very good video. One thing I will say is that they do very well in pairs. They do need LOTS of exercise . Very smart and overall the best of all dogs .

  5. Heh, we had to "puppy proof" our house with our corgi-mix around. Otherwise she would be quite destructive. I work at home, so I'm able to play with her during my lunch break and my 15 minute breaks. And we have LOTS of toys so she's always got something to play with and chew on at all times. And we throw the ball for her constantly. And OH does she love to RUN!! LOL It makes me very happy that I have a large, fenced in, yard so she can go outside and play with her toys, once the weather is good enough.

  7. Any really intelligent dog will get bored easily. If they are smart , they need to be occupied. Please don't get a high energy, really intelligent dog, if you are away from home most of the day… or night. Look for a more laid back dog that likes to sleep or low energy. If you match your lifestyle to the dog you are looking for, much more chance at happiness for both of you.

  8. the tail is only “non existent” in countries where tail docking is still allowed 🥶 whilst some are born with a natural bobtail most have a tail (and keep it in the UK where docking is banned but it’s still standard to amputate it in the US, Canada etc…)

  9. Corky (1yr female Pembroke Corgi) is the smartest pup I've ever seen! she learns thing instantly.. they really pay attention she would rather have love and praise vs treats at times… I swear it's like these dogs can understand every word you say it's actually kind of freaky lol… I keep close on my Corgi at all times little t-shirts or dresses because of the shedding and change her daily and brush her at least three times a week that's probably the only con really but if you keep up with the grooming it's not more than most dogs but like I said you have to keep up with the brushing and grooming multiple times a week or you will truly have piles of hair everywhere I Love My Corky so much she is the most lovable smart intelligent dog I've ever seen

  10. My corgi is almost a year old and he’s more interesting in playing then being pet. Sometime I just wanna chill and pet him but he would rather find a toy to play tug of war with. Idk if he will enjoy being pet in his later years.

  11. I had 5 since 1989, 2 cardis, 3 pems. Despite popularity they are NOT for everyone. They can be very destructive if left alone too long or often and their teeth can destroy a Kong toy. They are very smart but are independent and can be stubborn. Training will take some time. They need high end dog food as they have sensitive stomachs and become dangerously overweight quickly. They can develop back problems if overweight or injury, none or very few stairs & no jumping from high places. No small children, corgis herd and body slam when they play & can knock them down, older children best. They shed A LOT!!! You will eat and wear dog hair, get a good vacuum & get used to it. They are prone to skin problems in warm weather and climates and need A/C. higher vet bills. They are barkers and its loud & sharp. Them and you will do best with a backyard. They live 12-15 years. You will pay today from a good breeder $1200-2000. If this is ok for you even if your situation changes, great. If not, please look further. I dont want to see them showing up in shelters like many other breeds have.

  12. "The personality of a German Shepherd"? Absolutely not. Holy cow, that's one of the worst inaccuracies I've ever heard about any dog breed, ever.

  13. We have a 14 week old corgi and she has a 2 year old terrier brother to wrestle with and run around with. She will just flop on the floor and pass out, and night time in her crate is no issue. The secret is lots of toys, chewies and a buddy to wrestle with 😊

  14. I usually had larger dogs and haven't had a dog for a long time. I got a corgi 2 months ago and she's the best friend I've ever had.
