I know I'm late, but there is a cheap remedy for constipation in cats & dogs. It's a flavoured paste called Laxapet (in the UK anyway), that is available without the need for a prescription from a vet. As an added bonus for cats, it also helps reduce hairballs. It's in a squeezy tube & the majority of cats LOVE it. The instructions say to put a small blob of the paste on the nose or paw pad, as cats will instinctively want to clean it off, meaning they lick the paste up. However, because it's flavoured, the majority of cats will quite happily lick it straight off of your finger. Even better, they don't realise it's medication, as they view it as treat! Unfortunately, constipation can become a problem for some senior cats. If the problem persists, its worth having a vet express the anal glands, as over the years, these can slowly become blocked from any tiny amounts of waste that haven't flushed themselves out of a cat's system, so it begins to harden & calcify, eventually blocking everything up, meaning it's difficult for a cat to poop. And it can make their little bottoms VERY sore, itchy & inflamed. I had this problem with my girl, just before Christmas 2021. At that time, she was only a few weeks away from her 17th birthday. I already use Laxapet from time to time, as being a long haired cat, she's more prone to hairballs, no matter how much I brush her. The vet recommended though that I always give her a dose of Laxapet once a week, as it would help to ease any issues in the future, as her glands are likely to become clogged again. Last September, she used the little box normally, seemingly with no problems. Except for the fact that she then immediately dragged her bum along the floor, exactly as she did almost a year ago. Once again, her glands needed expressing, but because she was having her regular weekly dose of the Laxapet, it meant that any irritation was minimal. In fact, after she had the plumber-come-vet treat her, she didn't do the bum scratching drag act. The first time, it took a couple of days before her discomfort wore off.
The place you put the litter box is a bit strange to me… I wonder if cats want to pee or poop at a high place? I am just curious. No offence. 😆 By the way, hope Maru is healthy. Happy pooping!
Unsweetened canned pumpkin is good for potty problems, a teaspoon once a day mixed well with wet food also living wheat or rye grass for kittys to chew on
