Let's ban PETA instead.
Prejudice I received when I had a Staffordshire Bull terrier hurt me deeply as they are such loving dogs. I am now a single 68 years old and I would adopt a Staffordshire Bull terrier before any other breed if it wasn't for the fact that when i owned one people would cross the road with their children becuase of the reputation created by gangs and the media that they are all vicious dogs which is a terrible shame
Most people have no clue about Staffordshire bull terriers and the American Pitbull and American Staffordshire terrier are the same breed the English Irish took them to the USA so when people say they are not related they are.The Staffordshire bull terrier was used in the English bullterrier for colour.
Idk why people try to turn them into guard dogs. They would much rather play with the burglar than harm him.
4 years ago I found a tiny pup ony front porch. I asked around the neighborhood if anyone was missing a pup. I put up lost pup signs as well as called both animal shelter and police dept. I was told if no one claimed him after 3 days, then I could keep him. I thought he might be a type of mixed bulldog, but when I saw what a staffordshire looked like and their traits, I just assumed that is what he is. I have always been a dog lover and have owned a variety of dogs from mixed to full-blooded chow, German police, black and tan coon, cocker spaniel and chihuahua but none of these has filled my heart like he has. He is sensitive to me when I cry, licking my tears and is very vocal, and outshines every other dog I have owned. I have named this handsome guy. Rock.
They are NOT all the same dogs and nearly NO owner ever takes a basic class in dog obedience. I am a skilled dog handler and took in an APBT that is a 'game type' male from a small town toward the Michael Vick property of dogfighting in VA . So I have seen real dog fights up close and learned that a dog is property under thew law and any damage it does is the owner's liability… That is why there are leash laws!
These dogs kills more people that all other breeds combined. This is dangerous misinformation. I have only met a couple non neurotic pitbulls.
Lost my Ridgeback in April. A month later, my wife and kids adopted two Staffy puppies. They are so affectionate, happy, and those full body wags are one of life's gifts. I miss my Ridgeback, but these two are pure love.
I have a staffy x rottweiler and he is the soppiest oaf there is. Adores and protects children yet terrified of chihuahuas. The worst guard dog as loves everyone he meets. Walks everywhere off-lead and loves the pub. Definitely man's best friend.
Staffies are so loving caring and empathic, i will never get another breed, my staffie are so random haha
My first dog was mixture of staff and eng bull, second dog pedigree eng bull, now I have blue staff, love em
PETA destroy more dogs than any other animal organization, they run more kill shelters than any other supposed animal welfare group, never donate to PETA or help this group in any way!
I adopted a Steffie from a shelter 6 months ago. I got a discount because they said it was almost impossible to re-home her. But she is the sweetest , best listening, quick learning dog I have ever had( she is my seventh ). And she is the best in cuddling and giving kisses when you need them. Only lesser thing is that she sometimes tends to bite visitors in the butt. We don’t know why she does it, she is not aggressive at all and loves people. She also doesn’t have fear of abandonment. But she is already 9 years old and we will probably never find out what has happened to her that she does this so I just keep her close to me when we have visitors and then there is no problem. I just love Staffords and esp mine!! ❤️😍
Every single aggressive staffy I've seen have always had a complete nobhead on the other end of the lead
Good, clear and concise guide. I reckon you could replace Staffy with any dog breed and it could work just as well.
I have 2 of them
Staffs are lovely dogs in the right hands.
In the wrong hands they are dangerous especially to other dogs.
The anount of ignorant and aggressive owners and their staffs I had to put up in the air I lost count……….. To protect my dog.
Staffys are the best dog in my opinion, we lost her lost year unexpectedly she was loving friendly dog and was so good around the children. If you have the time and don’t work all day I would definitely recommend a staff. We think about her every day RIP BEAU ❤️
I had a beautiful black female staffy, I had to let her go to my sister and brother in law because my cat and chihuahua used to bully her, she was so gentle and loving and protective but it wasn't fair to keep her, she lived a long and happy life with them
Pitties only have a bad rap because of humans, when I lived in America I had two pitties and rescued loads to rehome, never had a dangerous or vicious one either, I’d have a staff I’d in a heartbeat and and seriously thinking of getting a rescue
Our staffy loves eating ice cubes and frozen cubes of Greek natural yoghurt with a raspberry popped in!
Australian blue cattle x American staffy he is a beautiful big sooky boy @
Staffies are the most human loving dogs. All they need is a person to let them show their loyalty and love.
They get depression and separation anxiety easily. This comes from them wanting to please.
My Remy a Staffy 🥰
The sad thing is the traditional colours are dwindling because everyone is buying blue dogs these days! Blue is a genetic fault and people need to stop buying them.
Never go to the bathroom alone again😊
No dogs belong on the dangerous dog list. There is no such thing as a dangerous dogs only dangerous owners.
I have a staffy mix that was a rescue. I can confirm the personality trait of being dog aggressive and would recommend caution and shouldn't be owned by inexperienced dog owners.
They aim to please, if you want them to be nasty, they'll be nasty. If you want them to be a teddy bear, they'll be a teddy bear. It's not the dog that's the problem, it's the owner.
i have an 8 year old female staffy that i walk off the lead, i always get disgusting looks and people calling their dogs back its sad as she wouldn't hurt a fly 🙁
I have a staffy …. Wasn’t my first choice but the more I read up on the breed the more I wanted one ………. And I’m so pleased to say they are the most loyal dog he’s very good with other dogs doesn’t bother him if they bark … great with people as well and always looking for hugs who ever that maybe and they are a really intelligent knows quite a few tricks… now can I also point out this is my first dog I’m 59 and he’s been the best thing ever to come into my life he loves me lots but hey I love him just the same back
Rather than letting dogs that show any aggression have a litter, what ever breed, there should be a rule only the best behaved should be allowed to breed. The same should apply to humans. Because humans are the problem not the dogs. Humans are such a handful much harder to train than a stuffy. Any one who loves stuffiness should get one from the pound. We did and she was the best behaved and the worst behaved., of all our stuffiness. If she got verbal abuse from another dog she would tell them to shut up, then recline showing respect but they would get a reply like behave yourself. That dog was a Saint. She did not get her good manners from any human that's for sure. She must have got them from her mother. If you want unconditional love, get a stuffy.
💁🏻♀️☝🏻My Amstaff is my service dog(gait/seizures/diabetes)…she turned 11 yesterday😉👍🏻
PETA should be on the band list.
I call bull sh it http://thetruthaboutpitbulls.blogspot.com/2012/01/culling-manbiters-and-desecrating-truth.html?m=1
"Back In The Ole Bulldog Days These Manbiters Were Eliminated Immediately."
I hear this over and over again, so let me just ask who, specifically, ever culled a game "man-biter" back in "The Ole Bulldog Days?"
Earl T never minded feeding man-biters, even though his wife's legs were covered with bite scars. Some of Tant's dogs would just as soon eat you as look at you. I understand Burns' dogs were even worse.
I'd like to see someone step foot on V Jackson's yard if he wasn't around.
Carver kept his share of "man-biters," as did many many other famed dogmen.
In most cases, if a dog was good enough to win, it was good enough to live, regardless of who it wanted to have for dinner.
ROCKY ALEXANDER, APBT historian and former APBT breeder
Pit bull advocates are fond of saying that the American Pit Bull Terrier is no more aggressive than any other dog, and in fact they are LESS aggressive towards humans than most other breeds. They claim pit bulls make horrible guard dogs, stating their pit bulls would lick a burglar to death. They attribute the pit bull's love and docility of humans to the dogman's need to handle them in the pit and after the match, if they earned medical care, therefore, any pit fighter that was aggressive towards humans was culled. Or so the story goes. There are two problems with this claim. First, it minimizes animal aggression and exculpates pit bulls when they randomly flex their genetic muscle on unsuspecting animals. And second, it is patently false. This blog will only address the claim's lack of validity.
The pit bull evangelists have a litany of factually challenged, emotionally charged slogans ready to use in their online war of disinformation, each more ludicrous than the other. One of their favorites is "the dogmen culled man-biters". In the Nanny Dog and the ATTS myths, there was almost a kernel of truth at the core of the myths. Yes, the Little Rascals' Petey did appear to be the primary care taker of a group of neglected, poverty stricken, mischievous children and yes, the pit bull does score higher than many traditional family breeds of dogs thanks to the sociopathic machinations of the pit bull apologia.
In contrast, the man-biters were culled and the pit bulls were not bred for human aggression myths were created from thin air, complete fabrications. There is not a sliver of truth in the myth that dogmen culled man-biters. Not only weren't human aggressive pit fighters NOT culled, but a talented man-biter was heavily bred, his stud services were in high demand and the stud fees commanded a premium. The progeny of man-biters are still sought out long after he or she has passed away. This Italian game-dog website lists their choice for the Best Ever fighting dogs, three of the five are known man-biters and the other two trace their origins to the others on their "Best" list. Some famous man-biters have their own facebook fan pages. If you happen to be a 10x winner with 3 kills and scratching on the carcass, people tend to overlook a little thing like the danger she poses to people and she is also likely to be nominated for the cover of this month's International Sporting Dog Journal. Some famous man-biters not only have a facebook fan page, they have their own promotional merchandise too.
BadRap, Karen Delise and other pit bull advocates like to lay the blame of the current trend of breeding human aggressive pit bulls for protection on the 1987 Sports Illustrated Magazine. They believe the magazine turned the pit bull from loving nanny dog into an unstable meth lab soldier, forever tarnishing his image. But pit bulls have always been used to guard/watch property. This is not new to the contemporary backyard breeders who are attracted to the pit bull's thug image. It has been done in America since the beginning. Ads placed in the early 1900's prove this. Even the treasurer of the APBT club was peddling a human aggressive pit bull. And the oldest, most respected name in the history of the APBT, Joseph L Colby wrote in 1936, "As a watchdog he is unexcelled. This book could be written five times on this one subject, in regard to the American Pit Bull Terrier as a watchdog."
But there are APBT facts and then there are the comfortable myths the pit bull apologia tell themselves and others to conceal the fighting dog's true image and hopefully improve it. The fact is, if a dogman liked what he saw in the pit, the dog lived and it was bred with the hope of producing more high performance pit dogs. I have not found a single account of a great fighting dog or even a potentially great fighting dog who was removed from the gene pool prematurely because of poor temperament and a tendency to bite the hand that fed it. I have not found a single account of a great fighting dog or a potentially great fighting dog whose owner elected not to breed because of an aggressive temperament towards humans. The media accounts of the most famous fatal pit bull attack are oddly silent on the subject of the man-killer's fate.
This 1976 match report acknowledges the existence of man-biters and recommends the use of muzzles, not bullets to manage the problem.
I have a pocket American Bully. Best temperament in the world. And he was rescued from a Fighting dog breeder. And he has never gone after anything or anyone and I have 2 cat's. He's a perfect gentleman.
After my 12y old labrador died, I am getting my first staffy in 4 months 😀
It's only the owner themselves, puppy see puppy do. 🐶
