Follow us on Instagram: Liz_and_Lou_Hey guys! In this video I tell you what a Cattle Dog needs from their owner.. including exercise, mental stimulation TIME & love. If you cannot deal with their bad habits and the fact that they are very much more primitive acting than your regular “family” dog. They are working dogs and are NOT meant for any owner.
I love this breed so much and i am devastated to see the amount of cattle dogs being given away to shelters at such an alarming rate. If you are ready for a heeler, i advise you to adopt from the many shelters!!

If you get one, make sure everyone who is going to be around him knows how they are. They will love bite the hell out of you.
Great video! We have a Red Heeler/Catahoula Leopard mix. She’s crazy! But she’s loads of fun and NEVER boring.
I'm about to bash my head through a wall with all the barking my heelers does
We had a German Shepard/Blue Heeler cross when I was a teen. We lived on the outskirts of a small town and she had acres to roam. I spent most of my time outdoors with her. Definitely not an apartment dog!
they should be left to roam outside, they're supposed to be on farms and properties.
you're a genuine lady. all the best
I have had several blue heelers, as life long companions – I have NEVER had any of my heelers nip or bite me or anyone, so I disagree with this. All it takes (as with any working breed dog) is the command "no biting" when they nip as puppies. Blue heelers are extremely loving, friendly and receptive to commands. All my heelers have also always been wusses, they have had other dogs try to start fight them and they have fled and tried to get away, I think it is the craziest thing ever for people to say that they are an aggressive breed – i've grown up with them all my life and have them now, I have never ever experienced any aggression
from a heeler towards a human or a dog.
Nossa. Essa. Raça. É. otima
I was raised around blue heelers or Australian cattle dogs and now I have an Australian Shepherd
How do you make it stay still? 😂 I also have one and it is also my first dog😂😅 it is very naughty and hyperative😂😂
My next dogs will be cattle dogs. When I search for all the qualities that I want in a dog, an cattle dog matches everything I’m looking for. High energy, loyal, intelligent, and a job to do.
I have two boys. My first fella was a rescue, love him. Three years ago I got another male. Yes alot of energy, Very easy to train. Very smart. If an Australian cattle dog fails in a home, it's the owner's failure. By far the best breed out there. What you put into them, you will get back. Not a breed for apartments, not much property, or for the lazy.
I am so so thankful my husband is a farmer and our heeler Roxy gets to go with daddy every day and work with him! She’s the best dog ever but he had her for 8 years and now she is my Velcro dog and she’s so well behaved and I can’t image having another dog like her! We love our Roxy girl
My heeler was more then I could handle and I regretted getting her for a while after getting her. Couple years later she still a pain in the ass but she's my pain in the ass and she's the best pain in the ass I've ever had. No, just because it's what the dog was bred to do doesn't mean you can't train your dog not to do it. My blue heeler nipped for like 2 weeks and then that shit was done
My girl is almost 5 and no bite and no nip training from day one is important! If you live on a farm early introduction to the livestock is essential too. My girl is a one person dog, my dads loved everyone, and my moms is only about mamma. The best thing I did was training her hearding commands as a puppy. We have chickens so for her that’s her herd and she’s with them all day. To socialize Maeve I took her to work with me so she’s really comfortable in strange situations and with strangers. These dogs bond hard and are know as Velcro dogs. Remember what’s cute as a puppy may not be cute as an adult. Keep them active!
These dogs may be affectionate with you but how they act around other people/dogs is a problem, it’s not so much handling it but it’s tolerating aggression and the inability for the dog to cope with reality.
I made a mistake. I got my puppy. He's 3 months old. And scared of everything in sight. Only follows me. Barks at everyone. I'm so stressed out. Idk what to do…. I'm at my limit. I didn't look up the breed
I hate this ACD term. They are heelers. Blue or red. Calling them an ACD just sounds so uppity
I agree with you and I LOVE my cattle dog – she is so worth the time and energy!
Love your content!
I just adopted a heeler mix from a shelter, he is missing an eye so i believe he was overlooked. He is an amazing dog, definetly wild, alot to handle. I have the time and energy but its alot of work.
I love this dog and will do everything i can to give him a wonderful fulfilled life.
I have a 5 mo old ACD/BC mix pup. We were lied to about her breed (farmer would only tell us that mom was a beautiful border collie) and we didn't find out that she was 60% ACD until we got her Embark results back. I didn't know anything about the breed until after we brought her home. I would not have gotten this breed knowingly! You are exactly right that they are primitive/wild. Its like taming a baby wild animal. I suspect my pup was bred poorly, or not socialized <8 weeks, and/or has anxiety issues. She was reactive and tended toward aggression from a very young age (maybe 10 weeks). She is easily frustrated if training isn't clear- hates to be lured. Is easily bored despite 2-4 hours of exercise + training daily. Stalks my cats and has prey drive towards them despite being raised with them and being constantly interrupted and redirected. Easily overwhelmed (and therefore aggressive) with children and babies/toddlers. Has BIG emotions, whether they are positive (excitement) or negative (fear), that she doesn't seem to know how to processes (maybe this has more to do with age vs breed). Has a REALLY hard time relaxing outside of her crate; always super alert. She LOVES (adult) people that she knows, but only has 1 dog friend bc she is either reactive/aggressive towards other dogs or is so submissive that she gets pushed around to the point where it is no longer play and her safety and confidence are in danger. This puppy has caused us so much stress. We love her and are trying everything (meeting with trainers, a behaviorist, and our veterinarian, learning online and through books) We really hope it doesn't come to rehoming her or sending her to a pricey board and train. I would never recommend this breed unless you KNOW that both their parents had good temperaments and the pups were well socialized before going home. I used to be the person who thought you could socialize and train your puppy into a calm and confident dog that fits your lifestyle, despite the breed. But I have been thoroughly convinced that genetics are real strong in determining a dogs temperament. I am so jealous of people who love ACD's bc mine has been so difficult 🙁
Lost my heeler Cosmo yesterday after 13 loyal years. I'm still in semi shock…he was my 2nd cattle dog. Timmy C Arizona
I adopted my rescued cattle dog last week. I would never give him up! Rex is my constant companion. A shadow which always following me.❤️
I ate mine. She was delicious..
Ive been lucky. Have a Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix that has been great. Yes lots of training, yes lots of exercise, lots of time at dog park etc. She just hit 13 months and love loves loves all other dogs.
And yes there is a good 2 hours+ a day at dog park running hard and playing, then the backyard time, the hallway fetch etc.
If your heeler is a problem, just firm up the training – they have to know who is boss (one person, they might decide this), and boss has to be consistently firm. Gruff voice helps a lot, and let them be Velcro
People wont know till they try though. But I agree with your message.
best advice I have heard. Most people have no business getting a heeler. Right you are, have had 3,
