  1. Has Copper figured out that she's working, not playing? When did the other dogs realize they weren't out there to "run the sheep for fun" but that there was a purpose to what they were doing?

  2. Storm will have to take over Copper's training during April, but she's clearly well on the way. Good luck with lambing, Sean., and we'll see you again at the other side.🙂

  3. Copper is still very young…A pup, actually. When she's a bit older the chemistry will change and she'll have more ability to will herself to control those urges to continue running. You're still patient and are progressing with her. She's quite the bright little girl. As for humans, dogs must mature a bit to gain balance and she'll get it. Just a matter of time.

  4. Fun upload! Copper's coming along great💯 She a beauty and so intelligent. Its funny hearing a low voice for comannds, then the lie down has to be so louder. I do believe she'll keep compromising on that command until you both are happy😊. Blessings during the lambing season💚🌱🐑 A hui hou (til we meet again/a new)🤙🏾

  5. All best wishes for the lambing season and hoping the weather will be kind. We'll all be here to welcome you when you get back after the hard work of the lambing season.
Great to see Copper coming along so nicely.
    All best wishes

  6. Love the way Copper's "down" often looks like a yoga pose: tail up in the air, front on the ground. Just completely ready for rocket-take-off. She's turning into a really gorgeous girl. May the lambing go well for all. 🐕🐏🐑🐑🐶. And may you get some sleep sometime, Sean!

  7. She is keen on sheep. She knows the commands. She is still a puppy. Her stop is a conflict in her mind. Once she works through that, you will have another fine working partner for a good 10? years or so.

  8. Don’t know whether it might help, but advice Bruce Fogt of Sidney, Ohio who started my Lacey in late 80’s for me offered that really helped when she learned she didn’t have to lie down when told to do so and she was on the opposite side of the sheep…. I was getting close to resorting to buying a bird dog training collar when I called him and so glad I did. He told me she wants to work more than anything, so when she doesn’t respond to lie down, forget about the sheep, walk right through them to her and do a number of lie down practices along with a few other basic obedience commands. Then go back to working her on the sheep. She learned in only a few days that if she didn’t lie down, she was off the thing she loved most, working sheep and after that, she’d drop immediately. You are a lot more experienced than me, so who knows if it would work for Copper but it did my girl and saved me a lot of yelling lie down! Without her listening so thought I’d offer it in case it might help. We love your videos here! My Border Collie watches with an intensity that is very entertaining. Just wish I could get our Great Dane to shut up during them! 😊. Open to any tips on handling that one! 😊

  9. Hey, I absolutely love your videos! And so does my pup! Just a little thought with the lie down command since this is a training session I notice that you give Copper quite a jumble of commands while you ask her to lie down. I understand with herding you have to be able to give thirty different commands in two seconds to be able to control the herd. But since this is just training with a puppy for now. Have you considered just giving her the lie down command and not saying a different command for a good few seconds until she gives you a solid lie down. The next command to run being her reward for a solid lie down. You started to do so at the end of the video. Being a young pup with a lot of drive having a lot of commands thrown at her can get a bit confusing. It seems Copper’s anticipating the next running command which is why she’s not giving a solid lie down. A good exercise would be with a ball try a game of fetch have her do down stay, throw the ball with her still in a down stay (lie down and stay) tell her to go fetch the ball, but halfway to the ball ask for a lie down and just repeat that exercise then use that training with the herding training. Sorry I’m not trying to criticize your training at all! Copper’s definitely come a long way and has been progressing you’ve been doing a great job! I thought I would just give this little tip! Thank you for putting out these fantastic videos!

  10. You just know Copper is thinking, “But I want to run! Can’t I run?” whenever she hears that lie down command…lol! She is still a puppy full of energy.

  11. Copper out in the big field on a beautiful day in Scotland! Her training session was brimming with action and patience from Sean ~~ a wonderful show today. Happy Easter to all and much success during lambing ❤🐑

  12. At the beginning, I loved the way Storm was kissing Sean's hand and putting her paw on his hand to try to control it. She thought he was talking to her, since there was nobody else there

  13. I'm not sure but it seems to me like Copper doesn't take you seriously when you give her the "Lie Down" command because you switch to another command so quickly right afterward. Not being a shepherd myself, though, I may not know some aspect of training.

  14. I wonder that you don’t get a sore throat with all the repeated yells of “lie down”!! 😆😆
It is super impressive to watch coppers progress and you are such an amazing trainer.

Please explain what lambing means? Does that mean you will be assisting the sheep with their birthing of lambs? What do all the dogs do during this time off?

We will miss you and the doggies, looking forward to the next one at the end of April!

  15. So impressed what you two managed to achieve. Do you think you it is possible just to wear the " helm camara" during lambing so we can maybe get a glimps of what you are doing during this time?

  16. I understand that lambing is a busy time on the farm,, but I would love to see a little bit of the lambing process, what jobs you have to add to your workload during that time. I follow a couple of channels where the sheep live in a barn year-round and so I see the whole process there and wondering what changes when the sheep are out on the land and lambing.

  17. Huge improvement in Copper’s training. I would not be surprised if one day a switch flips and she becomes the queen of the lie down, probably when she has enough experience to see it work. I had a very smart and headstrong dog who was like that. Training was a hard and we had to keep repeating things until one day she just got it. Good luck with the lambing season.
