      My Bessie is soooo smart and obstinate! You have done a great job describing “Westietude” and breed traits. I grew up with dogs and have always had one, but never as willful as my Westie girl! Stubborn did not do her justice as a puppy….she was a monster! However a very cute monster 😉

      Our Sammy passed last year at almost 15 years old. He was the best little guy. Our 10 Year old Luna was depressed afterwards so we got her a new little brother, Finn. He's 7 months old now and she loves him. Westies are the best dogs. Fortunately none of ours have had allergies. Our breeder is very careful with genetics. As for feeding, ours eat anything. And yes, if we're in the kitchen, they are in the kitchen.

      Great video you two. Can't wait for my next westie. Fiona obviously needs a sibling as soon as her Dad is ready for another ball of energy. And cute new haircut by the way. I am going blonde soon.

      Hi Miruna and Sammy, This is Jodie and Cricket. Having a Westie is like having a continual 2 year old, and we love that. We had to start spelling things so she did not know what we were talking about, but Westies are soooo smart, she now knows what we are spelling! Cricket is 7.5 years old. About 6 months ago, we started to notice that she was not her normal happy, well self and it continued to get worse until we finally found a Vet that was able to diagnose what was wrong. Cricket had slowly over time developed a disease called EPI, (Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) It is a condition where the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes, leading to malabsorption of nutrients. It is an autoimmune disease not unlike Type1 Diabetes. It is not curable, but it is treatable for the rest of her life…It is expensive, but there isn't anything we would not do to keep her alive. She is doing much better now and we see her coming back to her old self. It has been heartbreaking to see her suffer so much, but we are grateful to have our girl happy and feeling well again.

      Do you think I can have a westie while being a first year Nursing student or should I wait after graduating? What do you think?

      My Westie ended up having skin issues after her first vaccinations, since then I’ve refused to get her vaccinated and her skin issues are gone completely. I think that whatever they put in the vaccines causes allergies. This is my 4th Westie and they all had skin issues until I stopped vaccinating them. I know it can be dangerous but I tend to not let her around other dogs and she gets plenty of exercise just not at a dog park.

      Dío tiene ya dos años y medio y es una de las mejores decisiones que hemos tomado. Por supuesto que asumimos los costes de veterinarios y peluquería. Por supuesto que es cabezota, pero es parte de su adorable personalidad, por supuesto que pasamos todo nuestro tiempo con el, trabajamos desde casa😊. Y los paseos con él, explorando nuevos parques, son lo mejor del mundo. No hay mejor compañía que la suya y, por supuesto, que no hay arrepentimiento. Entró como un torbellino a nuestra vida para hacerla 1000 veces mejor❤

      I'm glad that you put this together. I have Westies and Scotties and when people ask me about them I tell them similar things, because I don't want them to get an independent, stubborn, smart little terrier if they really want a golden retriever. That's not who they are. Everything is a negotiation. But if they are for you, you would not have it any other way!

      I underscore the points you have made. Macfu is still going strong at just about 14 years but he does have an arthritis shot monthly. He still receives compliments as to his appearance with frequent requests to pet him. What a great dog even though frustrating at times.

      I loved having my Westie Milo. He was too much of a barker due to the fact that he was deaf, but he definitely had Westitude! We got him at around 8 yrs and he lived until he was almost 18.

      My Westie has like zero prey drive. He totally ignores squirrels when we are out walking. My little guy also has IBS so he is on a prescription diet. But he is doing fine. He also has the little skip in his gait like Sami.
