  1. Shouldn't the breed be renamed to Basque Sheepdog then? Just because the Basques traveled through the AU before coming to America doesn't make the dogs an AU breed.

  2. She's gorgeous, but I've been a Briard devotee for 30 years, so I would've loved to see the beautiful black example of the breed take a prize.

  3. We had an Australian Shepherd. She was our working dog. She herded our flock so well. We never needed to teach her anything. Her intuitive skills were off the charts.

  4. I don’t know what they look for but the GS was the best for me He/she didn’t look up at the trainer at all and strutted very well without jumping

  5. I heard when you breed a big white collar on Australian Shepherd's they go blind. Mine didn't have a giant white collar but he too went blind in old age. I'm not sure why people do this.

  6. This is interesting for a person who knows nothing about fancy dogs. I grew up with dogs who were survivors. Mix and match dogs. Hinds 57 dogs. Casserole dogs. All were super companion dogs. I don’t get the fascination with pure breeds.

  7. After having had an Aussie and bred and showed Afghans, I was very happy to see that they both won their groups! After winning the hound group, the Afghan competed for Best In Show! Sadly, she didn’t win.

  8. Got an 8 month old mini Australian Shepherd at a shelter – can't believe she ended up there . The softest hair , the sweetest most affectionate dog ever , I love her so much ..

  9. Yes American born bred in AMERICA… BUT IS AN AUSTRALIAN BREED … THE STUMPY TAIL SMITHFIELD / AKA AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG WAS ALSO USED IN THE ORIGINAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD….

  10. Most people know nothing about Australian breed cattle dogs especially Americans…THE TAIL IS NOT DOCKED THAT COMES FROM THE ORIGINAL BREEDING OF THE SHEPHERD WITH THE BOB TAIL SMITHFIELD FROM ENGLAND WE HERE IN AUSTRALIA WENT ON TO CALL THEM A STUMPY TAILED SMITHFIELD THEY COME IN BLUES AND REDS I BRED THE RED STUMP’S.. BITCHES CAN HAVE LONG TAILS AND STUMPIES IN THE SAME LITTER…. THE DINGO IS ALSO IN THE BREED HENCE THE DINGO RED COLOUR THE WORKING DOGS BOUGHT OVER FROM ENGLAND WERE TO SOFT FOR THE AUSTRALIAN BUSH COUNTRY SO THEY BRED A TOUGHER DOG FOR THE ENVIRONMENT…THE DOG THAT MADE AUSTRALIA…. THE SMITHFIELD IS NAMED AFTER THE SMITHFIELD MARKETS IN LONDON .
