  1. Horns supposedly help to maintain bodytemperature, so that would make them usefull in harsh, hot climates where they have a disadvantage over goats because of the wool.
    Humans tend to pick animals that stand out, for easy identification (no eartags and such then and branding sheep is not an option either), well grown horns tell you something about the health of the animal during the growth of them (good way to pick breeding animals). Most if not all of the cited populations where closed flocks, that means inbreeding and that can make some strange traits pop up.
