My girl Dobie loves her massages especially ear massages (she purrs like a cat when massaging within the ears). The only thing I do not have here is the Owner's toy which I just learned from this channel. I figure now that she is 8yrs I can skip it at this point but wish I knew about it while training the two Dobies I had.
massages and spa-procedures applying different foams and oils for skin and fur are our favourites
So, whether you have a puppy or a rescue doberman, I recommend always touching them everywhere. I routinely check between their toes on their paw pads up under their armpits, front and back legs. As a Chiropractor, he always gets a massage every day, and the reason I do those things is looking for ticks, because we go for walks in the park and overall health. Diet is by far the most important thing to spend your money on.
Fish oil, air dried meat and or home cooked meals with multivitamins.
I could leave so many tips and tricks here that it would take up the whole comment section..
So I will digress, my boy is thirteen. He sleeps with me every night. In the bed, he's always being touched petted or snuggled with. Not just by me, but everyone he comes in contact with. He was a fixture in our office for over 5 years..
Everyone came in to get their chiropractic.Adjustment, as well as their doberman therapy for the day.
I have fish oil and my Doberman gives me the "WTH" look. He is not a fan. He is not as treat motivated. He is highly toy motivated and fixates on one toy and won't easily switch to a different one. I did not know that Dobermans are prone to skin issues as im dealing with that now. My dog has loss of fur on his thighs. I have started using coconut oil on his skin as I use it on my other dogs.
I do massages on all of my pets includomg my Doberman. So that's the cats, the dogs, the chickens, my rats, and soon my pig lol My house is pretty calm and quiet, and the massages allow me to examine their bodues for any lumps or other physical changes. It took mg Doberman some time to adjust as i acquired jim as a 3yr old adukt and he was not used to be hamdled like that.
My Dobie likes to curl up under the covers and snuggle behind the back of my legs… 🤦🏽
We add salmon oil and vitamin E to their two daily meals. I also now make fresh food to add to their kibble. I'll cook 4lbs of ground turkey and chicken seasoned with oregano and rosemary then add carrots and chopped spinach. After it's cooked down and cool I'll put it in the blender with some white rice and blend it to a smooth texture. I’ll add a cup of that to each kibble meal and they eat it all. it’s a fraction of the cost. I was paying for prepared fresh food.
Owner's Toy – strange idea; not understand yet;
Yes … Massage with coconut oil , basket full of toys with names snake is hissy, elephant is aeravat, fish is swimmy, giraffe is giroo…it’s fun.Home cooked chicken with broth n rice ….❤❤
My dobies I had loved massages. I did all these things.
Zeke has two toy boxes he goes through the boxes and finds what he wants to play with, I will also use olive oil when I cook his chicken 😂
I always play with my doberman hybrids cute little feet and he doesn't mind it, I feed my dog ice cream and dairy to help have better health, I am getting the best kibble available made with deer as my go to with salmon that he loved they stopped selling locally. 🙂
I do these with my JRT.
Tfs
I'm wondering how much food does a typical 90 to 100 pound doberman eat from Ollie per day? And is that the sole food you use or is it as a supplement to the food they already eat? I have 3 dobies so I have to weigh the cost vs results.
My black girl Dobie had this routine EVERY TIME I walked down the stairs. She would stop in front of me on the mezzanine half way down the stairs, turn her neck back to me, and wait for me to offer my RIGHT foot to her. She would then nose my right foot and then continue down the rest of the stairs. 🙄 #ThatsMyDog!
I do morning massages on our guy… he lays down & I'll massage him for a few minutes. Just to get his muscles loose after being in his crate all night, and to start the day off in a nice relaxing way.
I also feed Green Lip Mussels alternating with Water packed Sardines or Canned Wild Caught Salmon toppers. Chicken Hearts go in the bowl 3x a week for Taurine, too.
Yo le pasó aceite de coco a mi perra Doberman, Taylor.
Le deja el pelaje súper brillante.
Ella es color rusty. Tiene 1 año y 8 meses. La adopté con menos de un mes.
Es mi hija y yo si mami
Quiches made with kefir – veggie and/or fruit, then meat source is on low in the crock pot. Having Dobes, I stay away from peas, pea protein, rosemary of any kind – been linked to seizures and I have one Dobe that's allergic to chicken, one that will get a seizure if anything has rosemary ( and it's in so many things now). My one friend has a FB page on epilepsy in dogs. She never thought to look at the shampoo ingredients. Sent her Springer Spaniel into a grand mal seizure. All my guys itch from salmon foods for some reason. Twice a week they get an egg nuked for 30 seconds (more afraid of salmonella), daily every morning a dollop of whole milk Greek yogurt (Aldi). They all want to be under their blankies. Taught my older Dobe a chin rest for petting rather than being nudged to be petted. Lol. Just a nicer way of asking to be petted.
Nose Work, tricks, and obedience, for my younger, less confident Dobe. He also refuses to eat his lunch if I put it in a dish. Has to be in his snuffle mat. (Sara Ondrako has a video on how to make a snuffle mat with a pocket – I just double knot my strips so they don't fall apart in the wash). Barn Hunt and Agility for my older Dobe. Honestly, Dobes seem to be as good, sometimes even better than the JRTs in Barn Hunt.
They all do a sit pretty right after they come in before being released to go upstairs. I actually send my dogs ahead of me down the stairs, but you could have them do a sit/wait until you get down the steps before releasing them. Every single door we come to, including the car door, is a sit/wait. The flying open of the door is NOT their release to go through it. They have to wait for their release word. Sit/wait for their meals too. Try to throw other words in to see if they know their release word too. Hope that helps.
Excellent video John, thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks John for the video

Hi John, can you make video about doberman or dogs in general chewing bones? I just found out some bones can cause harm, some are so hard it can weardown their teeth it some cases can even crack them.
I had a German Shepherd with skin issues. I used to give her a chunk of frozen salmon to chew on weekly. Helped a lot with her skin and coat. Made homemade food of spinach, rabbit, calves liver, blueberries, sweet potato, and SUPER over cooked old fashioned oats. She was allergic to any bird (turkey, chicken, duck, quail, pheasant) so had to stay with beef, salmon, rabbit, occasional bison.
My wife and or I massage our Doberman before dinner every night. For dinner meal, Guinness gets extra-virgin olive oil added to his meal and for breakfast omega-3 treats added. I have whoever wishes to meet Guinness do so, he likes it. It's not too often, for many Koreans fear big black dogs 😪 Guinness gets kibble for both meals, but for bf he also gets one scrambled egg and a dollop of cream cheese; for dinner he gets fresh, cooked duck, steak or salmon (100+ grams) added. Morning walk I carry tennis balls (only mine until he poops), afternoon walk a monkey-fist rope toy (again, only mine until he poops). Works every time. The difference is we play with them, but only at those times. At home, he has totally different toys. Touching and handling is an on-going thing. We can't keep our hands off him, especially when he turns upside down…🤣 That's his "You're not paying enough attention to me" position 😍
Such great points John…Thank you!!
Do you start puppies on kibble and then switch to Ollie when they're older? On one hand the health benefits seem great but kibble seems better for using for training / puzzles / kongs, particularly puppies where you're doing a lot of training.
